Batman is the superhero identity of detective, Bruce Wayne. Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27, May 1939!
The name "DC" (i.e.--DC Comics) derives from DETECTIVE COMICS, the precursor to today's huge line of DC Comics.
Batman has no "special" or "super" powers, per se, but relies on self-taught fighting, acrobatic, martial arts skills and, most importantly, his intelligence.
It's this latter--intelligence--that allowed Wayne to develope several cool toys to aid his cause. These include the Batmobile, Batarang, and several
other useful weapons.
Bruce traveled to Europe at age 14 and studied at Cambridge and other reknowned schools. He learned karate from a master in Korea, Judo from the
Japanese and Tao from the Chinese. He learned tracking skills in Africa and Ninja skills from the Ninja. All of these tools combine to aid Batman in
his fight against crime in Gotham City.
Batman's biggest enemies have been charactors like; The Penguin, The Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, and Bane. At times throughout his crime-fighting career,
Batman has been aided by sidekick, Robin. Over the years, there have been three different Robins--Dick Grayson, Jason Todd & Tim Drake. The latter, Tim Drake,
is the current Robin. He's currently aged about 14 or 15 years old and is good with computers. Batgirl is another ally that has aided Batman on occassion. And
Catwoman, the loner theif, has a sort of love/hate relationship with Batman.
Batman has appeared in comics, cartoons, television human drama, movie human drama, and countless toys and collectibles.
